Re: You are typical of many ignorant Europeans who think that America really was an ethnic "melting pot" and thrived on tolerance. Quite the opposite was true.

John, did you read my previous posts? I'm afraid you didn't.... Otherwise you would have noticed that I'm not ignorant of the prejudices that have plagued the US society so far. Let me just remind you this witticism of mine:

Americans are racist people who nurse their racism, whereas Europeans are repressed xenophobes.

Sure, racial relations in XIXth century America, or during the Roaring Twenties (KKK,...), or even today in 'post-segregationist' America, are not a model showcase to be praised by melting-pot evangelists. Yet, if we consider the social fabric as an evolutionary, dynamic body then we have to ponder its progress/regression relatively to the past and to other, competing social models (such as Europe, China, Japan, Brazil, etc.)

Even though the process of integrating minorities is a painful one in the US, jeopardized by the unemployment crisis, and even if the so-called affirmative action has been challenged by mainstream politicos, I think that the US 'salad bowl', somehow, has reached a point of no-return and that a fascist settlement of the racial question will remain off the US agenda for the forseeable future.

Gus.

Mr. Lacelle,

Not all Europeans are stupid, and ungrateful, but I have to
admit, we have plenty of them! They are usually young punks with some sorry university degree, that have forgotten to what extent we owe our present prosperity and liberty to the United States. If it wasn't becasue of Unite States, we
were either dead, NAzi slaves, or at the best, Soviet satelites. Also, you should go easy on using the word European. All we have in common is white skin, and very little else!
This is a big continent with lots of diversity!
