Windows 2000 Shipment Delayed

REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news).'s long awaited update to Windows NT won't ship to users until next February.

Windows 2000, Microsoft's next generation network operating system for business and corporate use, has already been delayed for more than a year.

The Redmond software giant has been saying recently that Windows 2000 would ship before the end of 1999, but said yesterday it would not actually be available until Feb. 17. Microsoft announced the release date at a marketing event in Las Vegas for its software and hardware partners.

Windows 2000 offers improved Web application services, increased security and enhanced network growth capabilities, the company said in a statement. The software is mainly used on servers, which help run centrally managed computer networks.

The mid-February 2000 release date is contingent upon initial quality assessments, the company said. No price has yet been set.
