Goodness. Don't they have some real <not twisters> working for them. I haven't seen such a stupid move from Microsoft since they released Bob.

You know, not to digress back into timeless quantum cosmology but, the phrase 'timing is everything' keeps popping up for me (paradoxically) along with thoughts of resurrecting the 'Bob' concept. I think maybe the Hebrew wisdom of "location location location" might be a more appropriate way of approaching this: Bob on Solaris.

Management Center's simple, Java-based
GUI will satisfy customer requests for
simplicity, but the long-term goal of the
management environment is to take manual
administration out of the mix completely.

Now, unlike the 'cluster' that was Bob on Windows, JavaBob for enterprise systems-management actually makes sense.

It would be fun to do the UI. I think instead of a dog or a cat avatar, there should be like, a 'dominatrix' avatar (with user definable 'outfits'). Her name might be "Miss Root" and, well, you get the idea.

This would take setting permissions to a whole other level. Have problems with doing regular backups? Not anymore! Click Miss Root's boots with your tongue cursor before proceeding. That starts the backup job just as you're allowed into the chamber metaphor menu. Regular tasks are iconified as BDSM objects, etc etc.

Having to go through Miss Root to 'shutdown -r now' would be a bit more interactive. You'd have to at least ask 'please'. Removing files and entire directories would... well, you'd have to BEG.

Best of all, it teaches the new MCSE Solaris Admin hire good form, well articulated policy, and of course, Unix, in a way he or she can more easily understand.

:)
