Kash,

<The only scenario that makes sense to me is that HP/Dell/IBM/GTW/CPQ all will want to push cumines. So even 5M units spread across the big 5 players gives only 1M each for rest of Q4. And the best bang for the buck is with Camino/DRDRAM.

So maybe there is no real supply for tier2/tier3 players.

And they are all basically waiting for the 820 with 2 RIMMS.>

Are you suggesting there will be 820 based systems for this Christmas - assuming a Novmeber Camino launch?

<The only other scenario I can see is that wafer yields etc are great but there is some yield/bin split killer at final test>

There may be something to the bin split angle. There is a rumor that Intel is not discounting the 700/733s that much and OEMs are balking at the prices. Don't know how far this is true.

Chuck

RE <<<With Intels manufacturing prowess I cannot believe that they can not manufacture/have manufactured several millions of cumines.>>>

Its actually the mobile processors that are in short supply. Reports coming from outside intc say its manu. problems but intc is saying the problem is great demand.

As I was doing this post,I realized that if demand was that great, analysts would not be reducing revs and earnings for this coming quarter....that's what happened this AM.

If demand was that great, intc should be selling everything its making at top prices. That would lead to increased revs and earnings for the quarter. Make sense?

Since that is not happening, there may be a shortage of chips due to yields....if so, it provides a selling opportunity for AMD.
