gg cox - I'm fully aware of the contents of the Charter and have studied it in the past. I believe that I live in the best country in the world, but I'm no fan of the Charter. It has made Canada less democratic and the fundamental freedoms contained within it are subject to the "notwithstanding" clause and can be overridden by any of the country's legislatures. So while the wording sounds good it packs no punch. This is how Quebec got around the fascist, and completely embarassing to most Canadians, sign law. Quebec argued that it was a matter of free speech and that they therefore had the right under the Charter to pass the sign law "notwithstanding" the fact that it violated the right to free speech. Don't get me wrong, I support all of the rights and freedoms within the Charter, it's just that we ended up with the worst possible system.
