I think this is a subtle hint to Microsoft to get their act together and make sure Win2000 isn't a buggy piece of crap at its release

Tench, re:"rumors that some groups at Intel are switching to Linux"

Careful here - The key is to ask, "Switching from what?"

Intel, like all others, host the vast majority of its Engineering CAD software on Unix. This is a fact for over ten years. Microsoft hasn't been in the picture here.

Any "switch" would be amongst Unix flavors. Hint: I understand that Linux runs best on IA based servers,so you can figure as to why the switch, and what else might be getting switched...

Ten - Re: "I've heard rumors that some groups at Intel are switching to Linux, including some in Willamette-ville."

Did they switch from UNIX to LINUX or from Windows NT to Linux ?

From a desktop point of view, Microsoft is the winner - there's no way to get around that fact.

As for Windows 2000/Linux, I can see Linux taking over a good part of Server OS installations - where its stability is paramount.

But does Linux have al the BUSINESS SOFTWARE applications that are counterparts to Microsoft's Back Office Server Suites ?

Otherwise, "Wintel" may change to "Innux."
