Weekly Thoughts: Psychological Bullying On Message Board.

This is a technique that bashers use to scare intelligent posters from a message board - thus eliminating competition and giving them free reign - and it also helps keep new investors away from a stock. The basher will use personal threats, name calling and many other aggressive forms of
mental abuse to their advantage (e.g., you pump and dump the stock and the SEC should put you in jail). Most people don't like a fight. And very few can withstand humiliating comments - true or not - pointed at them on a public forum. The basher, and his/her cohorts will move the focus from the
stock and relevant information to a virtual "cyber-slugfest". They will take any opportunity to conjure up anything to attack the legit poster.

This makes things easy for them and the more people fight back, the more ground they gain. The more the forum becomes a war ground, the less information that is posted and in turn, the less enticing the stock and its story become. Once they move in on a board and get the ranting to this level the board is finished. They have attained their victory and accomplished their goals (whatever they may be).

There are two major kinds of basher. First, they are hired by some firms or within some firms that want to see the low stock price. Second, some people lose money from their investments in some small stocks, become emotional, and then believe these small companies are bad.

Your best defense in this case is your own research. Know the stock, the market, and the company. Get your information from reliable sources, such as the company's SEC filings, the company's website and visit the company.

Know how to analyze the chart. Stay on top of your investments and don't rely on a message board for either emotional support or information. And above all ignore the bashers. Negative posts that are relevant are one thing but scare tactics are another. If you don't throw the dog a bone it will go somewhere else looking for food. Protect your self from the bullies!
