LG, yes, short covering certainly played a role...as someone has posted earlier short interest is at a record high. so once the ramp started the shorts began to cover. however, i have noticed that many times when the market turned from slightly negative to very strong late in the day ahead of important economic data the data turned out to be miraculously benign...as far as i remember there were only two occasions this year when this didn't pan out. then again, the third negative surprise would be o.k. with me...<gg>. based on anecdotal evidence (UAW, steel, airline wage negotiations) ECI should be strong. we'll see...

you know ... I didn't purposefully short INTC or MSFT when I bought DJX puts last month ... heck, why don't they just make the DJX == what stocks went up last week. -f-
