PCOP:
<<< Pharmacopeia (NasdaqNM:PCOP - news)
shares rose about 26 percent on Wednesday after the drug research products
firm showed a surprise profit in the third quarter.

Stock in the Princeton, N.J.-based company rose 2-13/16 to 13-1/2, making it
one of Nasdaq's top percentage gainers, with trade volume heavy at over 625,000 shares.

The firm late Tuesday reported third-quarter net income of 2 cents per diluted share, compared with a loss of
11 cents a year earlier. The recent third-quarter earnings rose on higher sales of software and laboratory
services, the firm said.

As a result, Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown early Wednesday raised its 1999 fiscal year earnings per share
estimates for the company to 16 cents from 10 cents. It also raised fiscal year 2000 and 2001 estimates to 31
cents from 28 cents and 51 cents from 49 cents, respectively.

Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown said it expected the company's financial performance to continue to be driven by
strong software and drug discovery services revenue growth.>>>
