We recently had a question about what else we should be reading....and I mentioned a subscription to Red Herring would be a very good idea. Your post suggests so as well...my November issue arrived about 10 days ago, so your link to Moore's article is, for me at least, old news.

Someone suggested UPSIDE as well....not familiar with it. Can we have a summary please?

"So, unswerving loyalty to the plan of record rather than acknowledging its failure early on -- the discipline of accountability that makes companies in mature markets successful and that "experienced" managers impose on out-of-control entrepreneurs -- is the first of several failure modes with high-tech startups."

This sounds like the old military maxim: No plan survives contact with the enemy.
