I am a big believer that x86 will make a lot of money for somebody in the future. Intel will probably also do pretty well with IA64 at the high end, but it needs partners like Sun in that space to execute for it. What I don't like about Intel right now is all the other crap they're getting themselves into--they need to focus on semiconductors. Their pathetic record of execution of late is demonstrative of their failure to focus. I saw it coming when I bailed out of Intel at the beginning of the year and I don't regret it for a second. I'm confident I'll find a spot in the fifties to reenter if I need to. In the meantime, I've made good money in Oracle and Sun--the companies who will end up being the long term big winners in this internut frenzy, even after the house of cards implodes.
