Yes, which is why you would need to drop in an out of the way place and get a day or two to build up. Frankly, I have often thought that forgetting the tanks and simply depending on arty with HEAT rounds and transferring fighter bombers and building up a captured air field would really do best. You would have to do it in a massive way. The idea behind developing a really large transport would be to move bulky items like arty with out having to take it apart or putting it back together. Also, to move large amounts of supplies.

As for now, we are about to descend into a new revolution in warfare possible greater then the advent of gunpowder. They just used a lazer to shoot down a Russian Artillery shell (Not a Missile!!) in flight. Spinning it and making it extra shiny to reflect the "ray" does nothing. Current aircraft will soon be obsolete. Particle beam and lasers are soon to be here in a big way, 10 years. Tanks and aircraft will probably need to be robotic. The ability to create swarms of tiny self propelled flying "insect" style weapons is here too. Welcome to the future.
