TeraBridge Technologies Advances ATM Local Telephony Alliance's ALTA Mission To Create Fully Integrated Local Exchange Networks
TeraBridge successfully demonstrates its ALTA compliant PathMinder(TM) broadband call control software, launches ALTA interoperability demo and test lab
SAN JOSE, Calif--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999-- TeraBridge Technologies Corp., leading developer of broadband call and connection control software for carrier and service provider networks, today announced at the CLEC Expo it has completed a demonstration that validated its new PathMinder software suite's interoperability within the ATM Local Telephony Alliance (ALTA). As a member of ALTA, the demonstration was TeraBridge's first effort to further the organization's mission of developing cost-effective, fully integrated local exchange networks using high speed lines to deliver voice, data and video services. The demonstration further established PathMinder's positioning as the defacto industry standard software solution for call control session management. As a result of the successful demonstration, TeraBridge has launched an ALTA interoperability demo and test lab to rapidly prototype complex network signaling environments--a development that will allow vendors to validate the compatibility of their technologies and further advance ALTA's mission.
``ALTA encourages the interaction of leading vendors to accelerate the development and deployment of next generation ATM-based local exchange carrier services,' said Vince Rocca, vice president and chief technical officer of 2nd Century Communications and a founding member of ALTA. ``By providing a well-executed and informative demonstration, TeraBridge has shown their groundbreaking signal interworking software possesses the ability to support ALTA's interface specifications.'
``True ATM convergence cannot be accomplished through the achievements of a handful of vendors; rather, it will require the collective integration of many leading technologies in an open systems environment,' said Gary R. Brown, president of TeraBridge Technologies. ``Such solutions will further require heterogeneous interoperability standards and protocols which can now be replicated and validated, as was proven through this demonstration. We intend to open our lab to any carriers interested in test driving our software and ultimately advance ALTA's convergence objectives.'
About the Demonstrations:
TeraBridge demonstrated PathMinder's ability to provision, monitor, manage and bill voice, data and video calls using a BISDN central office--services CLECs and ISPs can use to cap legacy hardware expenses, increase speed to market and offer compelling next generation services. The demonstrations were conducted in TeraBridge's Network Operations Center, in Gurnee, IL, at the request of TeraBridge's OEM partner and ALTA member, Siemens Information and Communications Networks. Specific capabilities demonstrated include
- maintaining a single local routing number for each switch;
- terminating Local Number Portability (LNP);
- porting a number to a broadband terminal;
- reviewing call element tracing through SS7 messaging analysis on line;
- creating of one-way incoming/outgoing and two-way trunk groups in real time;
- supporting multiple HNPA and a mixture of ported and non-ported numbers to a PBX over a single line;
- supporting dial handling with any combination of digits; and
- supporting tone, announcement and service interworking between N-ISDN, B-ISDN and traditional POTS lines.
About PathMinder's Customized Solutions: TeraBridge also demonstrated PathMinder's flexibility by showing the effectiveness of several customized solutions, many of which were configured as the ALTA demonstration was in progress. TeraBridge adjusted PathMinder's coding to
- provide interworking with B-ISDN and multi-frequency signaling to 911/E-911;
- provide interworking of Q.2931with N-ISDN and the non-ISDN carrier infrastructure per the specifications of ALTA;
- demonstrate number substitution for interworking with traditional telephony services;
- provide 911, 0, 01, 7 digit, 10 digit and international dialed digit capabilities;
- demonstrate call, trace and trap functionality for voice and data in a broadband services environment; and
- provide an interface with recorded and intercept announcements.
