wily, the big turning point was in August when Intel quietly announced they intended to develop a SDRAM (PC133) version of Camino - after repeatedly and vehemently denying in public that they would ever support PC133.

I predicted this, of course.

I'm 99% sure that, public statements to the contrary notwithstanding, Intel will support PC133. It just makes too much sense.

However, it's increasingly clear that Rambus can't replace SDRAM (and evolutions thereof) for PC main memory in the short term. So what is Intel going to do? That's the drama. (I've said before that I think Intel will capitulate and support PC133).

<They're talking new memory roadmaps for gawd's sake.>

Wily, Intel revises its roadmap about once a quarter, depending on the situation. Right now, the situation is pretty obvious. Longer term, the same old story still holds: Intel is dedicated to Rambus. (No, Carl, AMD's success does not hinge on the Intel-Rambus relationship.)

Hi wily; If Hitachi's new RDRAM samples are what I think they are, they will come equipped with a new and wider output compliance range, per the HardOCP leak.

If so, this is going to piss off Samsung something awful.
