It is traditional in profitable firms to advertise the product before you try to sell it, rather than afterwards.

John - Re: "There was a two page ad in this morning's WSJ for Intel Itanium processor, "available in the year 2000". This is the first ad that I have seen"

I find that incredible !!

Intel (to my knowledge) has NEVER advertised an unavailable product - unless with "teasers" a few weeks from a firm launch date.

I would have to conclude that Intel itself is supremely confident of the ITanium's functionality and performance - or else it wouldn't go out on a huge limb with an advertisement many, many months in advance of an anticipated launch date.

RE: Ad for Intel Itanium processor

Hi John or Nihil,

How much? Did the ad give pricing information?
