I keep remembering Russell's comments during the last analyst's meeting - roll out in first quarter 2000 with Charter. I can't help but feel all their energies (or most of them) are focused on this new enterprise. Whatever shape it will take, it will be exciting and will emerge full-blown, ready to do business and face down the competition.
In the meantime, RH and Company will try to get GNET back into the top 10. Hey, it's almost November, 2000 is very close, we need to be patient.

Carolyn-Blodgett and Merrill just downgraded AMZN in part due to their high advertising costs.

I heard what he said on cnbc and imho the reasons mentioned weren't really the issue with the downgrade. The real problem is that Amzn's revenue seems to have stalled. In the Jan qtr of this year Amzn did around 330mm (if I remember correctly), then a blas‚ quarter in the summer in the low 3oo's, then this one at 356mm - this is disappointing, not just for amzn but for e-tail in general. In q1 of this year I believe the analysts were expecting in the mid-400s by the time this quarter rolled around. It makes it look like there is a lid on the e-commerce market that previously nobody thought was there.

The estimates from the last cc were that amzn would do between 600mm and 1 billion in the xmas quarter. Even to hit the low estimates thats a double from this qtr's rates (and most analysts were looking at the high as doable).

The reason I'm bringing this up here is because it bodes for all the internet stocks - all should be ok if aol really delivers like yahoo did but with lackluster numbers from aol, I doubt gnet will move no matter what they do.

From the Black & Co. Report of about a month ago:

All Systems Go for go2net. We reiterate our buy rating on go2net shares. The company continues to execute its plan to become the leader in each of its vertical markets, while increasing its revenue generating profits
It then goes on to mention how "Authorize.net's server based transaction processing co. is a key piece in the plan to maximize opportunity within Hypermart and Virtual Avenue and that together these two has the largest aggregation of small business websites on the net."

I don't really believe the Amazon "plan" is any kind of threat, the are stretching themselves too thin : )

Don't forget Russ is speaking at an analyst conference next week, and then again a few weeks later. Hope he's out tie shopping <vbg>
