You're right about preopen trading. Sometimes it can be deceiving; however, three things are noteworthy. 1. It is bullish when a stock gaps above resistance like GUMM did this morning. 2. Somebody has been buying a lot of GUMM on Instinet the past few days and this has contributed to the support and bullish chart. 3. Instinet was on the bid after the open but went away after a couple of sellers showed up at 13 13/16 and 13 7/8. Pure speculation, but I would guess that somebody wants to buy a lot more stock through Instinet and that they will be back on the bid soon. They are probably just hoping that the sellers on the offer will bring in some sellers on the bid so they can buy the stock cheaper. So far, no dice.
