FOUR AIRLINES BAND TOGETHER FOR WEB TICKET SALES
Four U.S. airlines are planning a new travel Web site that will compete
head-on with Travelocity and Expedia in providing online travel information
and ticketing. United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines and
Northwest Airlines will invest $100 million in building the site, which will
be launched in the first half of next year. Users will be able to search for
flights either by price or schedule, and will also be able to make
arrangements for hotel rooms, rental cars, and a variety of travel packages.
The airlines will continue to develop and operate their individual Web sites
as well. (Wall Street Journal 10 Nov 99)
