Days Inns, The World's Largest Lodging Franchise Chain, Opens Its 1900th Hotel Days Inn of Eagle River, Wisconsin, Joins Global Lodging Powerhouse

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Days Inns of America Inc. opened its 1900th hotel today in Eagle River, Wisconsin, reaching a major milestone that no other lodging franchise system has ever achieved, Joseph R. Kane, Days Inns' president and CEO announced today.

Days Inns' unprecedented growth began nearly 30 years ago when Cecil B. Day, a real estate businessman, opened the first Days Inn hotel in Tybee Island, Georgia. Today, Days Inns operates in 12 countries with 165,000 rooms and hosts nearly 38 million guests annually.

The new Days Inn of Eagle River is a 93-room property and is owned and operated by Professional Hospitality LLC, a franchisee with three Days Inn hotels in Wisconsin. The Eagle River hotel is a conversion property that features a 24-hour indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, an expanded complimentary continental breakfast and comfortable rooms.

``The Days Inn of Eagle River is the third Days Inn hotel we've opened within our two year relationship with Days Inns of America,' said Patrick Flynn, Professional Hospitality's assistant vice president. ``We chose Days Inns as a partner because we felt we needed a major brand name to be successful in a market saturated with hotels vying for the resort and leisure consumer.'

``Business investors have responded to the Days Inn brand as eagerly as consumers because they have come to believe that you must have a national or international recognized brand name to be successful in today's competitive lodging market,' said Kane. ``The ability of the Days Inn brand to survive almost three decades in an industry that has proliferated to nearly 180 lodging chains is a testimony to the integrity of the brand name, our franchisees and the company's founding principle of providing a clean, comfortable room at an affordable price.'

Cecil B. Day, deceased, was the Founder and Chairman of Days Inns of America Inc. The budget-luxury concept of Days Inns began with an idea Day had while traveling with his family in New England. He realized that there was a void in lodging accommodations for middle Americans -- the family of two, three or four children - traveling on a limited budget. In 1970, he opened a 60-unit motel which combined budget and luxury features. Day's past experience convinced him that standardization of construction and operations would generate substantial savings, which could be passed on to guests in reduced room rates.

Days Inns can be found in 12 countries: Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Mexico, Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay. The company is a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD - news).
