Barbara, That is a very normal event. If a stock gaps up or down with no significant news or change in fundamentals, then there is a tendancy to trade into the gap before continuing the trend up or down.. I used to trade AMZN using the gap fill technique all the time, before they diluted it so much with all the splits. I hate AMZN as a company but as a daytrade it was almost 80% predictable for a while. Not a huge moneymaker but if you were diligent, it was usually good for 2 to 5 points in about 30 min. in both directions.

If you pick up a daytrading fundamentals book it should cover gap fills in better detail.
