B: RED HAT: Red Hat Linux OS included in Intel's global ISP programme OCT 28, 1999, M2 Communications - Intel Corporation is to bundle the Red Hat Linux operating system with the server platforms it markets through its recently created Internet Service Provider programme. Red Hat is a leading developer and provider of open source software solutions. The inclusion of Red Hat Linux in Intel's recently-launched ISP programme offers customers the power of open source software in the demanding Internet server environments in which it performs best. Additionally, users of Red Hat Linux on Intel's Internet server platforms can rely on the comprehensive services and support of both organisations. "The unique demands of ISP and other enterprise server environments are well addressed by the stability and power of open source and the Red Hat Linux operating system," said Colin Tenwick, Vice President and General Manager, Red Hat Europe. "Intel's rapidly growing ISP program and server building blocks, coupled with Red Hat's open source and open source services expertise, makes this a promising collaboration for both companies." According to a survey by Internet researchers NetCraft, Inc., the Linux-based Apache web server runs 55 percent of the Internet's Web sites out-distancing its closest competitor by more than 30 per cent. Scott Richardson, general manager of Intel's communications and Internet server division, said: "We anticipate a healthy demand for Intel-based Internet server platforms with the Red Hat Linux-based solution for our growing ISP sales programme. A key part of our ISP channel programme is to provide a full range of products and services offering a great deal of choice for ISPs and their business customers. The Red Hat solution gives our global ISP sales force another strong marketing option for these rapidly growing providers." Open Source Momentum International Data Corp.
