Well, it was rumored when Ballmer talked down the tech stocks that that would be advantageous to them, as far as offering or buying options...The also could be buying options on there stock, such as Dell is known to do, trading puts on their own stock for income...

If I started a company as a 'get rich quick' scheme I would want the price low enough to attract buyers. Probably no one would retire on it but it's a nice nestegg and they are in and out relatively quickly.
