can you explain just what it is a HUGH chip company like Intel is going to have Aware do that Intel can't do on their own?

Design xDSL chips? I'll bet that just because Intel has a ton of people that know how to design microprocessors and whatever they make now that they are making all these acquisitions, that the same engineers can't just sit down a make a great xDSL chip. They are essentially outsourcing the chip design process in the same way that IBM OEMs the Palm from 3Com or SBC sells Cordless phones from CDCO.

I would hesitate to bet on a tech company because of their patents. Few small companies win those types of battles, especially when fighting with large companies.
