Eric-
I think this BlueMountain purchase was all about eyeballs and about reminding people why they want a faster connection. The purchase will be put ATHM firmly up there in MediaMetrix. Everyone seemed to be dwelling on Excite not pulling in an audience....now they have it.

The second issue, remind people they want speed, they need speed. If you've ever seen a 56k modem download one of BlueMountains animated cards you would know what I'm talking about. They come off pretty hurky jerky until the whole file is present on your machine. You combine them with a fast connection and we're talking a whole different ball game. I think the idea of combining gift buying on the same site makes an enormous amount of sense. I know that if it was fast and easy to sent gifts and cards I'd do a lot more of them. Shopping for a small thank you gift is a major drag for people that have little time. The cataloge guys have been capitalizing on this for a long time. Give me a fast one click buying situation (with a no-spam selling method- If you guys are listening, this is important!)and I'm going to be a very giving person!
