U.S. central bankers have kept a close eye on conditions in the nation's red-hot jobs market, where a growing shortage of
available labor has led many to fear that wages will start to pick up, causing inflation to rise.

They will now look to the release of October unemployment data scheduled for Nov. 5, one of the last major U.S. indicators
that policymakers will see before going into their rate meeting.

Thursday's report also focused the market's attention on a speech by Greenspan to the Business Council in Boca Raton, Fla.,
at 7:30 p.m. (2330 GMT) on Thursday. The remarks, titled ''Technology and the Economy'', could give him an opportunity to
signal potential Fed rate moves ahead.

''If they're going to do anything, he's probably going to say something about it tonight,'' said Phil Hill, an economist at
Briefing.com.
