<But it has taken away from PII/III sales. Intel had record microprocessor shipments in Q3, but they sure didn't have record profits.>

I just wrote a lengthy post on this. Intel lost about 10% market share since Covington. Which means, Celeron, in terms of market share, has really gained at the expense of PII/PIII. (that does not take away from the fact that Celeron was a stroke of marketing genius)

Cringe - Re: "Intel had record microprocessor shipments in Q3, but they sure didn't have record profits."

Nope.

But $1,900,000,000 in profits for Q3 was pretty damn close - especially when Intel's competition was schlepping their competitive processors for an ASP of only $65.

In that light, Intel's profits were fantastic.

By the way - Intel's competition - the ones schlepping their competitive processors for an ASP of only $65 - they LOST $106,000,000 last quarter.
