Regarding Buy.com, my understanding is that internet retailers currently have several different strategies towards generating traffic. The first is typified by Amazon, and is to sell at razor thin margins, and do tons of advertising. The second is to give stuff away (see internet portal iwon.com). The third strategy is to sell below cost, and is typified by buy.com. A fourth strategy is to focus on service to generate repeat business.

I say, so long as people are willing to sell below cost and they have decent service, why not buy from them? To me none of the above except the last one are viable long term strategies. If it comes to advertising and price, search engines and robot shoppers are great equalizers. Therefore I personally don't own AMZN, and will pass on BUY.com as well. I will be happy to shop at Buy.com though, so long as they are willing to sell below cost.

Good luck,

Carl
