Hey Tex:The same thing happened with RMBS, by the way, as Apollo and others tried valiantly to anoint it while others manned the battlements and anointed them with molten lead for their temerity. After the September fiasco the RMBS backers retreated to lick their wounds (although some vowed to return later on). Had the skeptics managed to shut down discussion in the beginning, however, the thread would never have been able to read Apollo's searingly honest and intelligent post-mortems, and we would all have been deprived of a great practical lesson in the importance of waiting for the chasm to be crossed. Some clarifications... My posts on Rambus in July-Sept referred to it as a "gorilla candidate" (not a gorilla) that had nearly crossed the chasm. I never anointed it as a gorilla; the closest I came to this, that I can recall, was last Spring and referred to Rambus as a soon-to-be-delivered gorilla, with references to labor, cervical dilation and "crowning" (obstetrical reference to fetal head appearing in the vaginal canal during delivery). My wounds are fully healed thank you. I haven't been posting much lately for 2 reasons: 1. I haven't lately had anything real brilliant to say, and the thread has been refreshed by some very good new posters; don't want to clutter it. I thought I could chip in by re-posting information from the real SI "smarties" out there, like Mr. Fun and Bill Fischofer. Also, my Day (night & weekend) job has kept me hopping. 2. I said I would re-visit Rambus when Intel's 820 chipset ships. My position on this hasn't changed. To date, it hasn't shipped and hence, there isn't much to say. Both Intel and Rambus have been spectacularly elusive on the main problem and its fix, which makes me still more cautious as it is now 1 month since the 820 was supposed to ship. Rambus remains a gorilla candidate, IMHO. This hasn't changed. What has changed is that the longer it takes to fix and ship Intel's Camino 820 chipset, the longer the door will have been left open for Double Data Rate Ram or other alternatives to get a foothold. For sure, the big MO' has been severely dissipated. In the meantime, I broke even to the upside on Rambus, reinvested proceeds primarily in Q with a little more in Gemstar. I am now 65% Q. Apollo
