Good piece in TheStreet.com on AT&T.....talks about them protecting their legacy technology. Sorry I think it is probably a premium story.

thestreet.com

Finally, at a time when wireless services are still using old technology, "AT&T wireless service will thus always be voice-oriented, lower quality and require more power from handheld devices. And although the company claims 23% annual growth in wireless subscribers, it still trails the 56% rise in overall wireless subscribers."

Maybe somebody is starting to realize the truth about Ma Bell....The author is Hank Greenberg.

Keith, excellent point about currency float as pre-condition to IMF assistance... the IMF has become terribly politicized in recent years, with embarrassing gaffes... Russia, Indonesia, etc... Korea really worked out, as did Brazil to some extent

the devaluation of the domestic currency increases the value of the IMF loan instantly... WHAT A CONGAME? .. so transparent... yeah, loan me $1M and let me devalue my currency by 40% after finalizing

I would like to see the Chinese yuan devalued, after they held it back artificially for so long... unfortunately, no way in hell to devalue without a shock... the extreme shock is what communists simply dont comprehend... controlled economies, currencies, whatever, they always come back to proper equilibrium... except after longterm control, that equilibrium process involves a violent move... it reminds me of an earthquake... the earth dont give much, but when it does, WOW

we have not heard the end of the Chinese banks, weakened economy, building military... I keep coming back to my favorite issue: The Chinese Army Corporation will not be capable of pirating the CDMA chip... its mfg process is too difficult... God bless Fourier and its complexity

China is masterful in playing the West... they have the Taiwan card, used with sabre rattling... they have nuclear weapons... they have a large growing but primitive market... Western leaders appear finally to becoming wise to China's tactics when dealing for WTO entry
