Hi, Cheeky. This isn't specifically addressed at your comment, but rather in general response to the point you raised...

One of the ironic things about Y2K preparation is that those who are starting their preparation "late" (i.e., now) will have a much easier time of it than those of us who started trying to do it awhile ago.

I'm referring specifically to the ease that exists today in going to websites for every manufacturer under the sun and finding out whether their products are Y2K compliant.

I've visited lots of sites as much to find out what's happening as to make sure that my refrigerator was compliant <g>... everything from Maytag and Whirlpool to Subaru and Ford and, of course, Microsoft, Dell, and other hardware and software vendors.

Even 6 months ago, Microsoft's site was a mess as far as Y2K. Today it's a snap. Go to the site, look up your product, and order the patches. The same is true for virtually all hardware and software sites. We've been able to order patches on disk or CD-ROM as well as by downloading, but we've held up on making a lot of the patches under the theory of "let's let someone else work out the kinks first..." and, indeed, one of the patches we obtained earlier was subsequently updated.

So my suggestion is....check out all of the sites today (it's a fun project for kids, by the way...find out if the Toyota and the VCR will run), but do another check in early December in case any patches need to be updated, then implement the patches with sufficient time to remedy any problems that might occur.

Does anyone else have any thoughts to share about obtaining and applying some of the available patches for hardware/software? Specifically, has anybody applied their Microsoft patches?
