Casaubon,
I agree with your general analysis on the XAU. The three year bull market does indeed make one itchy on the trigger finger as I well know having barely resisted that temptation. Not to say I did not sell, I did sell most of my gold holdings and most within 10% of the top. I am slowly patiently rebuilding some, but not all yet, my holdings on this expected retrace.
The pessimism which is still rampant in the gold stocks, albeit perhaps buried deep within the individual traders (how many investors are left?) heart, is nearly an exact mirror image of the bull market's optimism.

One so quick to fear, the other so quick to greed.
