RE>> I think if we stick to studying the books, chapters and verses, in the order that they are presented in the Bible, it will be less confusing<<

I prefer that method. Topical studies can result in scripture being taken out of context or people who disagree with your presuppositions about the topic can "think" you must be out of context because they disagree with your conclusion of the Topic :-}

RE>> they should comment on the chapter and verses being presented
at the time.<<

Quoting other scripture to support what you believe about the scriptures at hand is important.

If people merely say " I think it means this "

While yet another person says " I think it means that "

Then one of two things will happen...

People will admit that one or both of them are wrong ( This is correct )

Or People will conclude that they are Both Right ( this is a great evil and comes from the deceiver )

People should at least TRY to prove what they believe from the rest of the scriptures as it is written:

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

And again:

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

And to prove my main point :-}

2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

All scripture has DEFINATE MEANING but we are slow to hear .

Now lest Christ Himself should anger at me as it is written:

Luke 7:32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

I will gladly share my "thoughts" on John with you :-}

The problem is that I can write entire books on single passages and some are already tired of hearing me <VBG>
==============================================================

JOHN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.

In the beginning - This can not mean the beginning of GOD because God has no beginning as it is written:

Hebrews 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

It refers to BEFORE the beginning of the Creation ! Not the Covenant because that is also eternal.

was the word - Word here is the Greek word "logos" it is where we get our modern word in Inglish Logic A Greek philosopher named Heraclitus first used the term Logos around 600 B.C. to designate the divine reason or plan which coordinates a changing universe. This word was well suited to John's purpose in John 1.

It is the PERFECT PLAN and LOGIC of GOD... but not without personality as we soon see.

and the Word was with God God has the plan FROM THE BEGINNING !

and the Word was God. here we see that it is not just a PLAN but a PERSON !

The same was in the beginning with God This proves that the Person who is the Logic ( plan ) exists in the beginning which means He cannot be created.. He is God but not alone because He is with God

God did not create man because he needed Him there has been ETERNAL FELLOWSHIP in the Godhead.

Later Kids are going nuts...
