With a backward compatible SDLT not due until the end of calendar 2000 (if it remains on its latest schedule), installed base starts to lose alot of its meaning for those who need something now rather than later. Magagement's comment about backward compatibility coming out later as an extra cost option "as we've always said", stuck me as another less than truthful comment. I'd never heard that before and, despite what management has said, SDLT timing has slipped very significantly.
One has to wonder whether OEMs will even qual the non-compatible drives and then have to do it again for the compatible. -Z
