Looking with my magnifying glass, the words appear to spell out Valence Technology. In addition to the big "V", of course.

Who was the producer last year ? Anyone have any guesses?

From the article showing VLNC cells:
HP intended to use Li-poly batteries with the
Sojourn, but made a conscious decision shortly
before launch to shift to a prismatic Li-ion
battery, according to HP's Jourlait. "The product
was designed to accept both," he adds, and the
Sojourn was using Li-poly in its prototype stage.
HP had problems securing enough of the
batteries, let alone batteries that were dense
enough, to make Li-poly a viable choice, he
explains.
