UV, tractor sales drive Mahindra & Mahindra Q2 net up 26%

mahindraworld.com

HIGHER utility vehicles and tractor sales as well as a bout of restructuring have helped Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) boost profits in the second quarter ended September 30, '99.

The company reported a net profit of Rs 60.4 crore ($14 mil) for the quarter, up 26 per cent from Rs 47.8 crore ($11 mil) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Gross sales and income from operations stood at Rs 1,015.1 crore ($226 mil) as against Rs 967.9 crore ($215 mil) in the same period a year ago. Profit before tax is Rs 76.6 crore as against Rs 57.3 crore. Operating margins improved from 11 per cent to 13 per cent. This has been attributed to better cost control and credit-sourcing initiatives. (ET-10/30/99)
