Another good article on the Network Computer: redherring.com I especially like LE's following quote: Oracle's last effort to sell consumer Internet access devices led to the formation of Network Computer Inc., now Liberate (Nasdaq: LBRT). Liberate, which failed to sell enough devices to supplant -- or even compete with -- PCs, later morphed into a software company that now develops platforms for set-top boxes. It recently enjoyed a successful initial public offering. Asked to comment on the company's unique reinvention, Mr. Ellison quipped, "If every bad idea I have comes out to be worth $3 billion, I hope they keep rolling out."
