I agree, and, in any case, one doesn't want patterns to be too busy--- and the more ornate, the greater the danger of aristocratic decadence, rather than republican wholesomeness. I once saw Mitterand interviewed in his office in the Presidential Palace (on CNN), and was appalled by the rococo decoration that pervaded the place. It was an office fit for the effete, not for a public servant.....
