Hy,

ust a thought does INTC need a ASIC like LSI for system on a chip..oops Halla change it to PC-ON-A-Chip big
difference right...anyway would you think INTC, LSI get together ??thx

Intel is doing their own thing, designing all of the SOAC themselves...CPU, caches, multimedia control, network interface (not certain of the last one, but why not, Intel makes NIC cards today). The chip is called Timna, is being designed at Intel, Israel, and is due sometime in 2H00.

Tony

INTC is too big for LSI and LSI doesn't have much to offer INTC at present. INTC is buying companies like Shiva, Level etc to diversify into networks and communications. As far as the microprocessor business is concerned INTC has the most market share and product recognition - even the Athlon won't dent INTC during this up cycle for the next three years.
