A Kinko's on the island? Bwwaaaakkkkkk!

There is NO national chain store on the island. No McDonalds, Burger King, etc. We do have a Texaco gas station and a local hardware store that's part of the Ace chain, but no standalone stores. As to Kinko's, that's funny! The whole population of the island is only 6,000 or so.

And when the phone service for the whole island is out, it doesn't matter whether a place has a generator or not. No phone service is no phone service!

A few years ago we had the power go out for five days. In a snowstorm, and the five days with snow on the ground and the roads impassable for the first few days. But when you live on an island, you have to expect such things.

I'm here briefly, but only. They're asking us to limit usage to about an hour a day total, to share what limited bandwith the back-up system has. So I'm off again. Please let me know if I miss any really exciting posts!
