Can Globalstar Beat Orbcomm in the following application?

ORBCOMM Global, L.P. (ORBCOMM), the first commercial provider of global low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite data and messaging communications services, today announced that ORBCOMM value-added reseller, Cybersensor.com, Inc. (Cybersensor), has purchased 11,300 Stellar ST2500 subscriber communicators (SCs) for a marketing program targeting the water, oil, gas and metering industries. Subscriber communicators are small devices used to transmit and receive data messages from any point on the globe using ORBCOMM's LEO satellite network. The Cybersensor marketing program will be launched in early 2000, with installations planned for the first three quarters of the year.

Cybersensor customers can use the Stellar SCs and ORBCOMM LEO satellite network to economically monitor and control "stripper" wells and other types of wells, pump jacks, compressors, water pumps and other equipment in the water and oil and gas industries, as well as for remote monitoring and control and meter reading in the utility industry. Cybersensor's Web-based software and programmable field subscriber units comprise a low-cost system for remote monitoring, giving users better data collection efficiency and improved field operations.

"We are enthusiastic about joining forces with Stellar and Cybersensor to offer the latest capabilities in global satellite-based data communications to industrial users," said Scott L. Webster, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ORBCOMM. "By economically linking customers directly with their remote assets, we are giving them an unprecedented communications option -- one that will reshape the way businesses operate in a competitive marketplace."

"The system is simple to install and operate, and can increase our customers' bottom line as well as their operational capacity," said Ed Corlew, Chief Executive Officer of Cybersensor. "Currently, there are some 600,000 oil wells, 169,000 gas wells and millions of remote gas and water meters that can benefit from this service. Global remote monitoring is no longer a luxury -- it's a necessity, and we're excited about working with ORBCOMM and Stellar to make it a reality for our customers."

"The opportunity with Cybersensor is an exciting one for Stellar," said Zvi Huber, President of Stellar. "The unique solution they bring to the oil and gas industry, as well as to other markets around the world, is very promising. It is a high-volume market that requires excellent value and competitive pricing. We have responded by accelerating the development of features needed for Cybersensor's application and are proud to have been chosen by the company to be its supplier of ORBCOMM communicators."

Cybersensor is the developer of CyberVip, a unique web-based software that permits low-cost monitoring and control of remote equipment and processes such as those provided by Cybersensor's parent company, Petroleum Asset Management Company (PAMCO). PAMCO offers a patented method for the extraction of fluids from shallow stripper-type oil and gas wells. Cybersensor is targeting gas and water metering products and monitoring equipment for other remote utility assets. Cybersensor is working with Netvah Capital Management Company to market its technologies in Europe.

Stellar Satellite Communications is a subsidiary of Elisra Electronic Systems. Elisra's main businesses are electronic warfare, telecommunications and microwave technology. Elisra's parent company, Tadiran, is a conglomerate with an international presence in both the civil and military telecommunications markets. Stellar's primary markets are asset tracking, in-vehicle messaging and remote monitoring. Stellar SCs are installed on refrigerated trailers, heavy equipment, trucks and marine vessels in mobile applications and storage tanks, wells, environmental sensors and utility meters in stationary applications.

ORBCOMM provides two-way monitoring, tracking and messaging services through the world's first low-Earth orbit satellite-based data communications system. ORBCOMM applications include tracking of mobile assets such as trailers, containers, rail cars, heavy equipment, fishing vessels, barges and government assets; monitoring of fixed assets such as electric utility meters, oil and gas storage tanks, wells and pipelines and environmental projects; and messaging services for consumers and commercial and government entities.
