. Still see a pretty good correction in the second quarter of 2000.

Volty,
You're thinking about the uncertainty inherent in any election year? Lotta sacred cows on the block every two years, and even more every four.

Voltaire-

On the split issue, I agree. When I mention that QCOM is a stock one just has to have in the portfolio. The reaction is always "No way am I going to pay over $200 for a share of stock." Now of course we know the split doesn't change the value, but it certainly can increase demand.

Call it marketing, if you will.

Voltair. Nobody but you expects a stock split. Also, it really isn't in the interest of Q's mgt to even announce a stock split now. They don't need to pump it. They just need for ee stock options to show steady growth, Also, they don't need enraged ee's from the sale of the ophone diviaion to be sueing them because the stock went thru the ceiling right aftwere they lost their options.

Voltaire: Is a 20 pt correction reason to trigger such a massive capital gain? QCOM will get the split sooner or later. Since QCOM has already indicated a split is not possible till February, the only announcement that may be possible would be the board approval of such a measure pending shareholder approval.

With the new price targets being presented by Smith Barney and Goldman Sachs, I am in no rush to worry about a near term split. In fact, I think the delay of the split is increasing the odds that a 3 to 1 split will be in order as the stock price nears 300 after the December quarter.

Personally, I just can't fathom QCOM trading at below 50 times next years new PE of $4.50 that was put out by SB and GS. That would put the floor on QCOM's stock price closer to $225 than $200.

All the best!!

I know, I know, the Econ 101 people out there are going to say a stock split means nothing but a division of shares, I say BULL---T!

Must beg to differ. A stock split means nothing--Warren Buffett (1 share of Berkshire Class A costs $63,900). I find it hilarious that this is even a subject of "debate". Two types of people think stock splits are important:
1. People who don't know what a market cap is, and think a stock split is some kind of Christmas present.
2. People trying to outsmart the market, who think a split matters because the people in Category 1 think it matters.
Has Dell's latest split helped that stock?
Tiger chases tail a little bit, he gets exercise. Tiger chases tail a lot, he turns into butter. Warren Buffet became a billionaire soaking his pancakes in the butter of myopic tail-chasers.
