Hi Gottfied - All--

Very interesting comments from "w7" on MF IOM board - "To Mike Jacobs and Janon" thread. "w7" is thought to be IOM employee. Thread starts # 28204.

w7 states clearly that OEM drives not being sold at loss. This disputed by RR?IOMEGANUT. w7 reply interesting.

We might make some money Nov.

Mike

Another Amazing Post from IomegaNut!

Once again, IomegaNut over at The Motley Fool has done his research and posted The Truth. Without further delay, here is IomegaNut's post in its entirety:

Subject: CD-RW EVERYWHERE AGAIN IN NY TIMES!!!

Yes, it's that time again- the LEAST favorite time of each week for Iomega Investors- time to count the number of CD-RW drives versus Zip drives in computer ads in the NY Times.

Once again, built-in CD-RW drives are EVERYWHERE in Sunday's NY Times. Completely dominating any other removable storage including Zip. And NO PC HAS BOTH CD-RW AND ZIP!!!

THis is very important. It means THAT CD-RW REPLACES ZIP DRIVES IN PC's!!!!

Here's the tally this week:
-----
J&R Computer (back of Money & Business)

Compaq Presario 3550 w/ CD-RW -$1599
IBM Aptiva E190 w/CD-RW - $499

NO ZIP BUILT-IN

# of PC ads: 3
# with CD-RW: 2
# with Zip: 0
------
CompUSA flier

page 2
NEC 500MhZ w/CD-RW - $779
Page 3
HP 550mHz w/CD-RW - $1579
HP 466mHz w/CD-RW - $729
CompUSA brand 500mHz w/CD-RW - $799

only 1 system with Zip- a Compaq 475mHz - $499

# of PC ads: 7
# with CD-RW: 4
# with Zip: 1
------
Circuit City flier

page 2
NEC 500mHz w/CD-RW - $679
HP 600mHz w/CD-RW - $1599
NEC 500mHz w/Superdisk

NO ZIP BUILT-IN

# of PC ads: 5
# w/CD-RW: 2
# w/Superdisk:1
# w/Zip: 0
------
The Wiz

(2) PC ads- no storage

<b.NO ZIP BUILT-IN
------
Totals for this week's NY Times:

# of PC's: 17
# with CD-RW: 8
# with Zip: 1
# with Superdisk: 1

As you can see, CD-RW dominates Zip built-in. It isn't even close anymore. And it's only getting WORSE for Zip. As CD-RW prices continue to fall, more and more OEM's are piling on the CD-RW bandwagon. CD-RW sales are exploding. Zip sales are falling year to year. Plain and simple.

And as Zip dies off, so too does Iomega.

Bravo, IomegaNut! CD-R/W is indeed on the rise. I have noticed it myself on the shelves of Circuit City yesterday. CD-RW is being built into more and more computers, and Zip is dying off the shelves.
