Hi Jon,

sorry about the belated reply. God, I could tell you hundreds of stories about my times in Vegas but I will just relate one that pertains to the real world.

A lot of people are aware that the Mob and it's connections not only built Vegas but their presence there was felt even up through the early eighties. A lot of people have doubted this.

While disposing of the salvage out of the MGM Hotel in 1980 I was suddenly presented with a logistical problem. A small part of my Salvage was approximately 13,000 Mattresses and Box Springs etc. that had to be taken down and loaded onto Trailers. I drive up to the loading location and my man is all stressed out saying the Teamsters we had hired to load the trailers would bring the damn things down from the Hotel but would not load the trailers. Their contention was, that part of the job was to be done by another part of the union.

Well, I go to my afternoon meeting chaired by the Ex. VP for MGM Vegas and Reno. He always started his meetings by asking if I had any problems. I said yes, I have about 200 trailers that need to be loaded and these bastards will not do it because of the Union. He said, just hold on, I'll be back in a few minutes. About 20 minutes later he walked in and said, trust me, they will load them now. Went back out, they were Silo loading those trailers. I don't think I have to tell you where the call was made to.

That has pretty well changed in Vegas now.

Selah,
