John,

This looks like a mechanical change to me Tony eh?

No.
What would you consider NOT mechanical? Redesigning a chip to make it work, you'll probably say. Certainly a software fix would never be called mechanical. OK, but redesigning a motherboard is not called mechanical any more than redesigning a chip is. Mechanical fixes usually refer to changes to frames, brackets, sliders, casters, cooling etc.

Semantics, I know, but the Intel fix to enable Rambus is not what I'd call mechanical.
