Pat, you should be able to copy the workspace from Hal (copy and drop)

then when you open qcharts the next time Hal's workspace should be available in the "open workspace list"

are you running one of the more recent beta versions????
Hal, may be using features that your version may not offer.
clicking on the about qcharts will tell you which version you are using
