Tejerk - Re: 'In the current fab shortage, of course the answer is one. Are you that thick when it comes to the financial side? "

Oh REALLY, Tejerk ?

Current FAB shortage ?

For WHOM ?

Not AMD !!!

Then WHY is AMD trying to do FOUNDRY WORK for Motorolo in Fab 30 ?

BEcause AMD has a fab shortage ???

Get serious - AMD has a FAB SURPLUS - one fab that isn't at capacity and a second fab that isn't in production because of yield issues as well as LACK OF DEMAND !

Re: "And the worst part about the delayed Fort Worth fab is that it will cost a lot more when they do build it and it may well open when the chip cycle turns downward."

You are correct on that count.

Fab 16 (Fort Worth) was originally designed as an 8 inch wafer fab. AFter it's postponement in 1997, Intel shelved plans for re-starting Fab 16 until Intel's 300 mm wafer program was ready to go.

So, Fab 16 will be one of the first - and EXPENSIVE - 300 MM wafer fabs to be built - and AMD will be the proud owner of one of the LAST 200 MM wafer fabs to be built !
