Jim, Dell's lack of performance this year is not a Cpq issue, nor is it related to most of the issues discussed on this thread. Dell's lack of performance is due to the lack of interest by the major money managers, institutions, pension funds, et al.

Why do you think the Street's money has gone elsewhere?<<

Finally someone who gets it.A clear, concise, rational explanation of the dismal performance of DELL in 1999.If DELL and GTW are both in the same business then why is GTW stock up 146% YTD and DELL up 8%?The Street obviously doesn't seem impressed by talk of Nashville,E-Commerce,merging with a troubled IBM, etc.People here say the Street doesn't get it.Wrong, it gets it only too well.

PS.They do assemble a great computer, though.I own one.

Good Question... It seems the money has been chasing the internet stocks and broadband telecom as far as hi tech is concerned. There may be a push to move money into internet appliances IPO's soon.

However, the state of the sector is an issue for DELL. With IBM, HWP, CPQ and Packard Bell losing money in the box business to the likes of AAPL, DELL and GTW making money it seems that the sector is losing some of its glamour despite its enormous size. In short it is a war zone.

Nevertheless, Dog's statements about DELL need to be addressed. The Dog is territorial and likes to urinate on the boundaries of his domain. It is good to apply "Natures Miracle" from time to time. <g>
