David,

We have pulled the specs on all of the government smart cards.

They all must be biometric ready......the chip must be embedded or prepared for biometric functions. Some agencies will use the biometrics....some won't.....but it must be in the chip.

I think that's where IDX will come in. Big scramble ahead.....I believe the entire transition will take 4 years.....with a price tag of over $1.5 Billion. Lots of companies will get some nice revenue.

I hope IDX is on every proposal.<g>

VRSN just got cleared for participation ......as these cards will use certificates. Pop IDX in there on the same blanket deal....and we have the beginings of a wonderful relationship.

I'm checking the DOD site every day.

Infinion and Motorola are the chip makers.......AMEX's new card...the "Blue" card has the chip....Infinion being the supplier. I feel that the next large production run for "Blue" will have chips that are embedded for biometrics......whether the function is used or not. These are expensive cards....and the full range of future functions will be in the chip....IMO.

The larger question is whether anyone will ever know.<g>
