Re: Intel is again suing Via. If this is the case... Via to increase their efforts on KX133 chipset and FIC to increase their Athlon mother board production?

Don't see that there is much else they can do. Brilliant move on the part of Intel - do they heat their buildings by setting fire to them?

Regards,

Dan

Hi Goutama Sai Kantamaneni; (Is that your real name?) I don't know what Via is going to do. It may be that Intel is just doing arm twisting on them in order to get them to not support AMD.

But there is another problem for Intel. Via is going to be the company that steals Intel's lunch at the low end, in my opinion. Via is going to be putting together a vertically integrated motherboard operation, with no need to buy processors from anybody, and they will have lower costs than anyone else. They'll be selling a full computer (including display, but no printer) for way under $400, one that does windows just fine.

I know that vertical integration is considered to be an obsolete industrial phenomenon, but it always comes back when technology stabilizes enough to let a single company efficiently produce all the parts. What with PCs providing more power than most users actually need or want, that time is approach in the PC market, system on a chip is the inevitable future. Via is a real hazard for Intel in that future.

You know, this country underestimated the Japanese for decades, and then they kicked our butts. The same with the Koreans. My prediction is that we will eventually face strong competition from most of the other countries in the entire world. There is no shortage of brains, brawn and desire anywhere on this planet. Via is going to be a competitor.
