Yes that goes on every day and it drives the price of many stocks down. I see people that are stuck in scams every day whining that the people on their thread are naked shorts. What they don't seem to realize is the fact that most of the time the people behind the naked shorting of their next MSFT are the owners of the company they are long in. When you see a company go public through a reverse merger with a shell and the directors and officers own millions of restricted shares you can almost count on them hedging their shares by putting them up as collateral for a short. If you are a basher concerning that stock you can't accuse them of doing it because you can't prove it and if you did say it without proof you could be held liable. It is much more prevalent than people that play scams will believe.
